How can I tell if my tyre needs replacing?

There are a few key signs that your tyre may need to be replaced: Tread depth – UK law requires a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. If the tread looks worn down or you can see the tread wear indicator bars, it’s time for a replacement. Visible damage – Look out for cuts, cracks, bulges, or nails in the tyre. These can weaken the structure and make driving unsafe. Uneven wear – If one side of the tyre looks more worn than the other, it may be due to wheel alignment or suspension issues and can shorten the tyre’s lifespan. Vibration while driving – Excessive vibration in the steering wheel or vehicle could indicate tyre damage, imbalance, or internal separation. Age of the tyre – Even if the tread looks fine, tyres over 6 years old can harden and lose grip, especially in wet conditions. If you’re unsure, our mobile tyre fitting experts in London can inspect your tyres on the spot and advise whether you need a repair or replacement.
